STA Award and STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming Qualification Assessment Update
Posted on 20th June 2022
Following the recent technical notices, Safety Training Awards (STA) would like to remind all Approved Training Centres that from today, Monday 20th June 2022, the STA Award and STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming has a Multiple- Choice Question Papers (MCQs) Assessment.
The qualifications are now assessed via practical demonstration (on course teaching and external practical assessment), MCQ assessment (final day of the course) and via the completion of schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson evaluation forms, risk assessment.
The new smaller learner portfolio contains the specific schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson evaluation forms and risk assessment as per the qualification assessment. These work products are assessment material and therefore must be marked by the tutor with developmental feedback included and are subject to quality assurance activities.
The revision sheets within the learner portfolio and sample MCQ paper can be completed during the course or as homework. The revision sheets and sample MCQ paper do not form part of the summative assessment, they are learning tools and do not need to be kept by the Approved Training Centre.
The updated resources, available on STA Online, must be used, however, the resource manuals for the qualifications remain unaffected. The MCQs are also available on STA’s online assessment platform, Cirrus. Giving ATCs the option to offer online assessment to learners.
For further information on the MCQ assessment procedure please read, STA Multiple Choice Question Paper Assessment Guidance v19.1.
