Introducing Editable Teaching Swimming Portfolios

Following feedback from our members, STA has created editable portfolios which can be sent directly to learners and completed electronically.

Tutors are able to mark and sign the editable portfolios electronically. Tutors must mark every question as competent with a tick or refer with a cross; a sticky note can be added to allow tutors to provide written feedback where learners need to include additional information. An editable portfolio marking guidance document has been created to support tutors and is available via STA Online.

Reminder: Learner portfolios form part of the qualification assessment and should not be sent to learners prior to the course commencing. Completed portfolios must show clear evidence of marking for every question and be signed by the course tutor. A copy of all learner portfolios must be kept by the approved training centre.

The following editable portfolios have been created:

STA Award in Teaching Swimming
STA Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults
STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming
STA Award Question Portfolio
STA Award in Open Water Swimming Coaching.

The STA Award in Teaching Swimming and STA Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults portfolios can be found in the STA Award in Teaching Swimming tutor resource area on your STA Online account. The STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming and STA Award Question Portfolio can be found within the STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming resource area.

To support learners who are attending an STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming course who hold the ‘old’ STA Award in Swimming Teaching qualification (and so need to up-skill by completing the new STA Award in Teaching Swimming portfolio), we have mapped across the skills and questions and produced a simplified version of the portfolio named ‘STA Award Question Portfolio’. This contains the missing questions and lesson evaluation forms needed to complete the up-skill in order to attend the STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming course. The STA Award Question Portfolio must be completed before the learner starts their STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming course—therefore this portfolio may be sent to the learner before the course commences and be marked electronically by the tutor.
