Technical Notice – Reminder: Practical Pool Sessions on STA Award in Aquatic Teaching – Baby and Pre-School Course
Posted on 18th September 2019
As per our initial Technical Notice posted on February 21st 2017, to maintain the high standards of the STA Baby and Pre-School Award Qualification, STA requires all learners to have access to babies and pre-school pairs during the pool practical teaching sessions.
It is the responsibility of the Approved Training Centre’s (ATC) Centre Co-ordinator to ensure there are between two and four adult-and-child pairs for each teaching station during the practical sessions of a course. The STA Baby and Pre-School qualification is designed to train learners to be able to deliver aquatic activities including paddle strokes to baby and pre-school children in an adult-and-child lesson; therefore these learners must have practical teaching experience with babies and pre-schoolers in order to prepare them for this role.
It is unacceptable for learners to teach peer-to-peer with dolls during practical teaching sessions and the assessment. If children of the correct ability are unavailable, Safety Training Awards must be notified at least one week ahead of the course start date by contacting your Centre Administrator at STA and submitting a reasonable adjustment via the ATC’s Synergy account.
If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
