Dive Into STA’s NEW Teaching Diving, Competitive Starts and Turns CPD

Posted on 8th April 2025

STA is extremely pleased to launch the new STA Teaching Diving, Competitive Starts and Turns CPD.

This CPD is aimed at STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming (or acceptable equivalent) qualification holders. It provides refresher information on how to teach diving and competitive starts and turns, including the use of starting platforms, within a learn to swim environment and covers:

  • Safety
  • Poolside Dives
  • Competitive Starts
  • Competitive Turns
  • Finishes
  • Medleys
  • Competition Swimming
  • STA Competitive Starts & Turns Awards
Important Note: This CPD has been designed for the purposes of maintaining occupational competency. It does not permit swimming teachers to teach these advanced skills outside the remit of their teaching qualification.

The online programme will take approximately 2 hours and upon successful completion, 0.5 CPD points will be awarded.

There is no assessment at the end of the programme but there is a statement of declaration to confirm all information has been read and understood.

The programme does not expire; however, it is recommended learners revisit the CPD as often as necessary to keep knowledge up to date, as well as undergo additional site-specific training to maintain competency.

Helen Done, STA’s Qualifications and Business Development Manager said: “This CPD has been developed following member requests for additional resources to support with teaching these advanced swimming skills. The nature of the learn to swim environment means swimming teachers may not teach these skills as frequently in comparison to non-swimmer, beginner and improver skills, so having this resource can help swimming teachers to maintain competency. We are really proud of this informative and interactive CPD that contains videos for each skill so swimming teachers can visually see how they should be performed. Thank you to the venues and participants that made this possible. We hope swimming teachers and subsequently their participants benefit from completing this new CPD.”
