In this training package, we cover two individual training modules – Communication and Visual Scheduling. In the Communication training module we talk through different ways of communicating with your participants, and help you develop an understanding of how to most effectively communicate with them.
In the Visual Scheduling training module we talk through the benefits of visual schedules, and how to successfully implement them with your participants. We also look at preferred and less preferred activities, and using motivators to help participants achieve their goals in the water.
By the end of the Communication module, providers will be able to:
- Understand varying communication styles and preferences
- Understand the difference between receptive and expressive communication
- Identify strategies to promote successful communication before, during and after aquatic activities
- Utilise respectful and empowering communication when working with participants who have limited verbalisations
- Understand how, when and why to use visual supports in aquatic activities to ensure positive aquatic experiences
By the end of the Visual Scheduling module, providers will be able to:
- Explain the benefits of a visual schedule in aquatic sessions
- Create and implement visual schedules according to your participants learning and communication preferences
- Utilise key aspects of visual schedules to motivate participants during their lessons
- Understand and implement effective preferred to less-preferred activity ratios
